The sun is almost always present in Cuernavaca.
Rainy season starts around June to late September, but the rain is often
a welcome refreshment. Average temperature from 15C/59F at night in
the winter to 35C/95F during the day in the summer. Remember, it can get
cool enough at night for a thick sweater.
Even though it is true that countries with bigger social differences are in
general more "dangerous" than others, we can put your mind at ease as far as
this issue is concerned: most large European or North American towns also
have a neighborhood where after a certain time you don't want to be alone
in the streets, likewise in Latin America. When you keep in mind some simple
ground rules, nothing really will happen. The schools and your host family
will tell you of course where you can go and the places you better avoid.

As a tourist you only need your passport to get into Mexico. Arriving by
plane, you will get normally 30 or 90 days. However, if this is
not sufficient, you might be able to persuade the immigration
officer to allow you 180 days right away.
Arriving by car, you get a temporal permit for the car of 180 days and you also get a tourist Visa for 180 days. In case you got just 90 days and you need to expand your time (to a maximum of 180 days), you can visit the local immigration office - call us for further details. We suggest you make two copies of your passport; one to leave in a safe place back home and one to bring with you. If you lose your passport, it will be easier to replace it, if you have a copy with you.
Please take care of your own insurance.
Mexico does not have any entry requirements as far as vaccinations are
concerned. However, you should consult your family practitioner
before your trip. In any case your "normal" vaccinations like tetanus,
diphtheria, etc. should be current. Should you become ill during your
stay, we, the school or your family can recommend you a good physician,
and accompany you if necessary. In Mexico you can be sure to receive
basic medical care. Mexico also has first class hospitals of European
level. We recommend that you take out a medical travel insurance. Please
check your insurance before coming to Mexico!
The national currency is the Mexican Peso. Electronic cashiers
are available throughout the country to withdraw money (Mexican Pesos)
with Visa or Mastercard. The ATM-System "RED" & "CIRRUS" are also
available at most cashier. Be aware that Mexico uses the "$"-sign
also for the Pesos - don't get confused. Credit cards are widely
accepted. However "on the street" you will need cash. US Dollars
will be accepted by taxis, hotels, and restaurants but at higher
exchange rates. European currencies will be accepted in the major
banks and changing houses. Traveler checks are only accepted in
banks and changing houses if in US$ currency. Banking hours
generally run from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M., Monday through Friday;
although certain banks open Saturdays. We recommend that you bring
USD Travellers Checks, which you will be able to change in
banks or in small money exchange businisses (compare the rates).
We suggest you change your "starting money" immediately on
arrival at the airport. The exchange rate is in general favorable
to the rate in Cuernavaca! There are no fees for the transaction.

At the schools you will also find English speaking people always willting to help you.
It is difficult to answer this question. First of all, everyone's schooling is
different. Moreover, learning comes easier to certain persons. Nevertheless,
because of our experience, we can indicate you a total number of hours; the
average person, interested in languages and without any previous knowledge,
needs about 100 hours (3-4 weeks of individual classes) to obtain a good
basis for basic conversation. Just as long, or even more time is needed
in order to speak fluently and to be be considered capable in the language.
You can begin classes on any Monday. If you prefer to take private tuition, you can start when ever you want! Can I arrive prior to the start of classes?
Yes, you can arrive before classes start and we recommend it! This way you can
get comfortable in Cuernavaca (climate, culture etc.). Please let the us know your
planned arrival date, and we will make your accommodation reservations beginning from
the day you designate.
Note: Some schools organize an orientation and assessment meeting the Saturday before classes start. If this is the case in your program it is worth attending this meeting!
We say yes! But we suggest you already begin at home preparing for your project (evening classes, books, CDs)
Sure! One week is the minimum time to register for group classes.
If you prefer to take private classes, we are able to set up programs
regarding your personal needs for just a few days! Use your time and money
well and stay as long as possible.
At most schools you can take individual or group courses from 3 or 4 hours/day.
In case of individual classes it is often possible to freely arrange class time with
the corresponding teacher; while group courses are mostly according to a fixed schedule.
The arrangements of course differ from school to school. Please take a look at the
corresponding descriptions, and if need be, ask us.
In general: The courses begin every Monday. Some schools offer already information and assessment on Saturdays
before Monday! Private classes can begin on week days. On our pages of the schools you will find the schedules of the different
Mexicans are party-makers and every event is a reason to celebrate.
If possible, we recommend your stay during one of Mexico's National Holidays
in order to share with the Mexicans this folklore. Commerce is open 7 days a
week / 365 days a year in the major cities and tourist areas.
There are no refunds, if a school day coincides with a National Holiday!

For legal reasons (supervision, ..) we offer our services, in principle, only
to persons over 18 years old (exceptions can be made when the parents supervise
their children on the spot; i.e. they can at least always be reached at the
Most students are 20 to 35 years old, however we often organize Spanish Immersion Programs for clients of the third age willing to have an enriching cultural experience in Cuernavaca. We are aware planning the programs that seniors often have other interests than youngsters and are not that fast catching up with things. We have clients from all ages and nationalities. Please note, that everybody is welcome to study Spanish with us, no matter what nationality, religion or age he is.
No, on the contrary. Individual courses are the best choice you can make,
because the teacher can fully address your personal needs. You will progress
fastest in case of an individual course, because the teachers create an atmosphere
in which you will make a lot of progress in the shortest time possible while
Most institutes or tour operators advertise that all teachers have a university
degree. It is our experience that this is somewhat exaggerated. Although most
permanent personnel often have completed higher education, during high season e.g.
students are frequently employed as teachers. A good teacher is a person who does
not only possess professional formation, but also a certain personality: i.e.
patience, imagination, compassion, creativity, flexibility, and last but not
least, a real interest in people and cultures. You will certainly recognize that
these characteristics are not necessarily a result of a university degree, but
mostly depend on the experience and personality of the teacher. The teachers have
often studied several fields (economy, law, administration, and some of them also
technical studies). The majority of the teachers are "Licenciados"
(HS + 3 yrs. study; the equivalent of a Bachelor's Degree). Many schools offer
professional growth opportunities for their teachers, but this is not a general rule.
The teachers of the schools are native speakers. During class attention is paid to only
speak Spanish. Grammar and communication skills are taught which allow you constant
interaction with the teachers and the other students, and you learn the language and
the grammar structure without memorization of rules and vocabulary in a way that allows
you to apply this knowledge after a relatively short time with flexibility and fluency.
Because of studying in the country itself and specially because of living with a host
family, you will be able to immediately use your new language skills.
Yes, it is important to determine your Spanish Level to assign you to a appropriate
group or program.
Note: Some schools organize the orientation and assessment meeting the Saturday before classes start.
Private classes are the most intensive way of language training. A teacher can
focus directly on your individual speed and needs! Normally the size of the groups
will be from 3 to about 5 people.
Yes, each course will be offered in different levels, so that a total beginner and a
advanced speaker can join an appropriate group!
Yes, it is possible! Please inform us about your needs and we will check the possibilities for you.
After your language course you will get a certificate of our partner schools.
This depends completely on the school. In many
schools the afternoon activities, and in some schools even the evenings,
are more or less an official part of the program. In other schools people "just"
get together or do something with other students and teachers of the school.
This includes sport activities as well as nearby excursions, dinners or dancing.
Most schools offer besides your language classes additional courses, e.g. dance,
guitar, cooking classes or a variety of workshops. No reason to be bored !
In your host family as well as among the teachers, you will meet persons
interested in you, your culture and your life style, and in exchange you will
also learn more about the people and the country you are visiting.
In this case also: Almost without exception do the language
schools offer weekend excursions. Some language schools' programs even include
these excursions in their cours rates. These weekend excursions are mostly
organized by the institutes. Travel agencies hardly ever get involved with
this. In case you are interested in doing some traveling after your language
cours, we recommend that you make your reservation through one of the often
numerous local tour operators or travel agencies. Schools are often very
helpful in this matter and can recommend reliable companies.
Family vacations with children are in principle possible, and child care is
almost always available upon request and with additional payment. Some
schools offer even special courses for children of course participants.
In spite of all this we would like to point out that a vacation in a Latin American country is not a typical vacation like e.g. at the North Sea. You will get to know the country in a very up-close and personal way - different from the tourist centers of some popular travel destinations - and you will have a lot of contact with local persons. These experiences will certainly broaden your horizon, but a few persons, especially younger, immature persons who then experience the infamous "culture shock", have problems adjusting to this somewhat different world.
Before your departure we will provide you with the name and address of the
school and/or host family. Normally there is no problem to reach you during
the day at school or with the host family. All schools have a fax machine.
You can receive faxes, and against payment you can call or send faxes.
This is possible directly from the school, or from the nearest post office.
Some schools have Internet access; we will tell you which ones upon request.
Making international phone calls from your home country is in most cases less expensive
than the opposite.
Note: No outgoing international calles are allowed from your home stay family!
After the reception of your filled-in registration form, we will confirm your stay
immediately. We will - in contrast to other agents - assign you to a host family right away.
Early booking will garantee you one of the best spots!

We would like to receive your sign-up until about 4 weeks before the course
starts, but in most cases we can also process short-term sign-ups within a
couple of days before the course starts. At present there is no additional
fee for this. In general there is space available in all schools, when the
sign-up takes place 4 weeks before the course starts. In case of a
short-term sign-up we ask you to consult us before sending in the sign-up form.
